Stain removal Guide

The following three solutions will be required together with a dry cleaning solvent and some white absorbent cloth or tissue.

1) Detergent solution - One teaspoon of neutral detergent, such as "Woolite", to 1/2 pint (1/4 liter) of warm water.

2) Detergent/Vinegar Solution - Add one teaspoon of White Vinegar to the Detergent Solution.

3) Ammonia Solution - One teaspoon of household ammonia to one cup of warm water.

Test the solution on a small out-of-the-way area, then tackle the stain by working from the outer edge towards the center. Check for color fastness prior to carrying out any wet process on your carpet.

Living with hand knotted rugs

For day-to-day cleaning, a light vacuuming will do an excellent job of removing surface dirt. You should vacuum both front and back sides, and turn it end-for-end once in a while. Dirty rugs wear prematurely, so regular vacuuming helps prevent dirt on the surface of the rug from filtering down into the pile, where it can accumulate and cause increased wear.

Take care, however, with power brushes as they cause a raking effect on the top layer of the pile if used to strenuously. A plain vacuum nozzle is recommended, especially for the fringes as they can shred or get caught and chewed up by the rotating mechanism of the brush.
