This is a old Persian Viss rug. VISS (WISS) is a small town near the city of Hamedan. Carpets made in Viss , like Hamedan rugs and carpets, have nomadic patterns. Usually one single medallion much larger than that of other styles is an indication of a VISS. There are some unusual patterns produced in Viss, including a repetitive motif all around the rug (shown in this piece) that is hard to find.
This rug is in good condition, no marks or holes and is about 40 years old.
